Please note that October is the month that the club nominates members for positions on the board. Put your thinking caps on and brainstorm some ideas on who you would like to represent our club for the coming year. Please do not hesitate on nominating yourself to any position on the board. Ask any member who has had the privilege of being a board member and they will tell you that it has been an incredible and gratifying journey. As an elected offical you will have the pleasure to work with a group of very creative people on the inner workings of the club. I have had the pleasurable experience to serve as the President this past year. While there is an increased work load, I found the overall experience to be very fulfilling. So please do not hesitate to jump on the bandwagon and lead your club into the next year.

ESDC President 2002
PUGET SOUND MARINE LIFE …. What a treat!
The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful area to dive in and very rich in its diversity of life underwater. It’s amazing to watch the animals and observe their behaviors and learn about the environments that they live in. Earlier this year we had the opportunity to meet Dr. Roland Anderson of the Seattle Aquarium and marine biologist Keith Ludeman, Seattle Pacific University Sea Lab, who shared with us the fundamental creatures of Puget Sound.
October is the beginning of great visibility. It is our pleasure to present Veronica von Allworden, underwater photographer and technical diver. Veronica will share with us the techniques and strategy of where and how to find these wonderful creatures.
Join in this informal group setting for the slide presentation. It will show the different types of marine life and you will learn where, and at what sites, these unusual marine creatures of Puget Sound can be found. Come early to get a seat!

October is the beginning of our election cycle.
Board officers serve for one year. They usually meet an hour before the general meeting each month (though that is their choice and can be changed) to take care of the club’s business. Each board officer has one vote on the board, though all ESDC members are welcome to attend the meetings and have their voices heard. A perk of being a board member (other than the thrill of serving) is that your $25 annual dues are waived. A drawback is that you cannot earn an air card while serving.
The process:
October meeting -- We nominate candidates for the 2003 board. Also, start thinking whom you want to vote for as Member of the Year 2002. MOTY is not nominated.
November meeting – Election: We vote on the nominees (absentee ballot is available). Write your choice for Member of the Year in the space provided.
December Holiday Party -- Winners are announced.
Think about serving on the board for a year. The club needs you. If not, serve the club by participating in the election.

There are still three spaces available on the Ocean Explorer charter. Everyone’s balance is due at the October meeting.

It is my pleasure to announce that Joy Honegger has successfully completed the big buddy program. Please take a moment to congratulate Joy on her achievement. Joy will receive a certificate and an Emerald Sea Dive Club log book on October 2nd.
