Washington State Ferries to Hold Public Meetings on the New Mukilteo Multimodal Ferry Terminal
|
Date: November 1, 2004
Contact:
Joy Goldenberg (206) 515-3411, Celia Schorr (206) 515-3918(SEATTLE) The public is invited to attend two open houses – in Mukilteo and Clinton – to provide comments on the new Mukilteo Multimodal Ferry Terminal concepts and identify issues to study in the environmental review process. The new terminal is being designed to connect directly with Sound Transit’s planned commuter rail station and will also provide improved waterfront access. The current facility is in need of major repairs, has traffic circulation and safety problems, and cannot accommodate projected growth. Meeting details:
Mukilteo
Tuesday, Nov. 9, 6:00-8:00 PM
Mukilteo Water District Administration Building
7824 Mukilteo Speedway, Mukilteo
Clinton
Wednesday, Nov. 10, 6:00-8:00 PM
Clinton Progressive Hall
6411 Central Ave., Clinton, Whidbey Island
Key features of the project include a new terminal building; a new ferry dock with two ferry slips; an overhead pedestrian bridge connecting passengers with the Sounder Commuter Rail Station directly from the vessels; expanded vehicle holding space that will reduce traffic back-ups; improved access for pedestrians, passengers with disabilities and bicyclists; and improved public waterfront access.
The new Mukilteo Multimodal Ferry Terminal Project is led by Washington State Ferries (WSF) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). WSF and FTA are beginning an environmental review process in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). During the environmental review, the project team will listen to public comments, conduct studies, and analyze potential impacts so the project can be developed in a way that protects and enhances the community and environment.
Members of the public also may submit comments by mail or e-mail. Comments should be submitted by Nov. 17, 2004 to Washington State Ferries, Attn: Joy Goldenberg, Customer & Community Relations, 2911 2nd Ave., Seattle, WA 98121-1012; or mukilteoferryproject@wsdot.wa.gov.
For more information about the project, please visit http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/mukilteoterminal.
